Pool Booking Marketplace — Elixir & Phoenix
A two-sided marketplace for booking swimming pools across Saudi Arabia, and the first platform in that market to do it. Consumers search by city, see live availability and a real price before committing, and pay online for instant confirmation rather than sending a request someone approves later. Venues — hotels, resorts, residential compounds, gyms, clubs and wellness centres — list their pools and run their own inventory, pricing and daily bookings from a host dashboard. Built on Elixir and Phoenix. The booking core is the hard part of the product: availability has to stay consistent while many people are reserving at once, and a slot that has been sold must never be sold again. Rental is modelled both hourly and full-day, alongside verified hosts, ratings, and women-only availability — an access rule this market requires rather than merely prefers. The business model is commission-based: venues pay a commission and consumers pay no booking fee. The platform currently serves Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and the interface is Arabic-first. It is, deliberately, the same shape of system as the hotel booking engine — availability, reservations, payment, a supply-side dashboard — built on a different runtime. Choosing the BEAM here was about concurrent reservations and staying up, not about preference.
A booking is confirmed at the moment of payment, against availability that is true right then.
The supply side of the marketplace runs itself, which is what makes it scale past a handful of venues.
Rules that are cultural requirements in Saudi Arabia, modelled in the domain rather than bolted on as filters.
Consumers pay no booking fee; the platform takes a commission from the venue.
